Writing a great blog post is only half the battle. The other half involves attracting an audience and converting those folks into loyal fans, followers and perhaps even customers.
Regardless of what you may have heard, there is no one-size-fits-all approach for accomplishing the second part of this goal. Building a following around a blog is as much of an art as it is a science.
Nevertheless, in this article I will share with you seven simple tips that you can work into your blog traffic strategy.
1. Share your post in small bites
Instead of tweeting a generic link to your post, try taking the body of a single post and dividing it up into three to five unique snippets, main points or quotes and then post these snippets throughout the day, along with a link. This is an easy way to maximize a single piece of content on a social networking platform such as Twitter, without seeming repetitive.
2. Comment on similar posts
After writing your post, do a quick search on Google and try to find some similar articles written by others in the field. Then comment on those posts and link back to your article if you can do so in a meaningful way. The goal here is to attract readers who are already interested in whatever it is you are talking about.
3. Use an influencer marketing platform like Triberr
I am a huge fan of Triberr. If you don’t know what it is, check it out today. It is a free way to get other folks to share your content with their sphere of influence on Twitter, Facebook, and other sites. It takes a while to get the hang of the platform, but the effort pays off. The longer you stay at it, the stronger your influence becomes.
4. Invite and respond to comments
These days with the awesome features of blogging platforms such as WordPress, there’s no reason not to stay on top of the comments you receive on your blog. Don’t let your readers talk to themselves in a vacuum.Take interest in what your readers have to say and response to each and every comment if you can. And of course, get the ball rolling by inviting your readers to comment in the first place by mentioning it in the concluding paragraph of your article.
5. Use a scheduling tool like Buffer
Buffer allows you to create a whole bunch of tweets and status updates and then schedule them to be sent at a later time. While there are many tools with this feature, I like buffer because it is free to get started and super easy to use. Don’t be that person who sends fifteen tweets about their latest blog post all within the same hour. Ugh. With Buffer you can space out those tweets over the course of several days or longer.
6. Add a compelling image
We all know how important it is to have a good image associated with every blog post, but this point cannot be stressed enough. You see, these days having the right image in your article can be the deciding factor on wether or not people will click on a link. With so many social networks relying so heavily on images, this is something that should not be overlooked. For instance, Pinterest and Tumblr are all about visuals. If you want to take advantage of these two platforms and many more like them, you’re going to need to be able to capture attention with one single image.
7. Keep sharing your older posts
Now this might not work for everyone, especially if you write about current events, but for the most part, there is value in sharing posts from the past. If your content is still relevant it doesn’t really matter when you wrote it. As long as you share these archived posts in moderation, it can’t hurt to give it a try. Maybe just once a month have a “Throwback Thursday” where you share a post from months or years back. Sometimes this is a great way to engage fans and followers on social media platforms and it just might spark an interesting conversation.
